Local FFA members to be recognized in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS- When the lights are dimmed and a hush descends upon an audience of more that 54,000 at the nation’s largest annual student convention Oct. 25 through Oct. 28, in Bakers Life Fieldhouse, Wilson Boyd will share the spotlight with other FFA Members as he is recognized as a FFA National Proficiency Finalist.
Boyd was selected as a Finalist in the FFA National Proficiency Award program in the area of Fiber and Oil Crop Production.

Kile a state champ again

Elisabeth Kile of Screven County Elementary School claimed gold at the 2009 Special Olympics State Fall Games in Statesboro the weekend of Oct. 2-4.
Kile won the Division One Girls state championship for softball skills which consists of throwing, hitting, fielding and running bases.
This is Elisabeth’s second consecutive state title as she won state in basketball skills January 2009. The SCES student looks to defend her basketball title again in January in Marietta. 

SCMS Gamecocks defeat South Effingham

The Screven County Middle School eighth grade Gamecocks defeated visiting South Effingham Mustangs 44-18 Sept. 16 to even their record at 1-1 on the season. 
The Gamecocks took the opening kickoff and marched 60 yards for the first score of the day on a 4-yard run by Chris Oliver. 
After a Mustangs punt, the Gamecocks drove again down to the 2-yard line after a 30-yard pass from Bailey Pollock to Aaron Roberts. 
Again Oliver scored from the 2 for his second touchdown of the game.
