After spending the past seasons in the trenches on the offensive line for the Screven County Gamecocks, Murphy Frankhouser on Wednesday signed a letter of intent to continue his education and playing career for the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.
“When I visited PC I met a lot of people and saw a lot of the school,” said Frankhouser. “The place was beautiful and the people that I met were fun. The place just felt right. They have a really strong business department and that is what I plan to major in.”
At 6-5, 275, Frankhouser was one of the mainstays on one of the largest offensive lines in Region 3AA this past season.
“Murphy came a really long way from his freshman year,” said his SCHS football coach Pat Collins. “He was a big, tall, lanky young man who needed a lot of weight room work. That worked helped him immensely. His senior campaign was slowed a lot due to a broken foot during the late spring months.”
Obviously with any high school senior headed off to the college football environment, the question always arises about playing time.
“I asked the coach about that and he told me that the best would play,” Frankhouser said. “I am very excited about playing football for PC.”
“Three things are necessary to obtain dreams such as these young men continuing their football careers,” said Collins of Frankhouser and of SCHS senior Ed Burns, who signed with Elon College Wednesday. “Those things are character, grades and ability. They both took full advantage to maximize their opportunity by having great character and exceptional grades. I am certainly very proud.”
Did Frankhouser have other options to play college ball?
“After I committed to PC, I received several phone calls, but turned them down,” he said. “I want to thank all of my coaches that helped me to get here.”
The Blue Hose have just made the leap to the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) and are members of the Big South Conference. Among their conference foes are Stony Brook, VMI, Liberty Baptist, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina and Gardner Webb.
