3AA names All Region baseball team

At a recent meeting of the baseball coaches from Region 3AA, the 2010 All region team was named.  Five members of Billy Pollock’s 3AA- A champion Gamecocks were named to the team in some fashion. Leading the way with first team honors were senior Dalton Mills and junior Devin Lawton.
Outfielder Mills, who led the Roosters in hitting in the recently completed season, finished at .482 (40-83) while leading the team in runs scored with 33 and coming in second in RBI (29).  He missed the state playoff series with Jeff Davis after a practice injury two days prior.
Lawton, who saw time in both the outfield and second base, was second on the team in hitting with a .421 (24-57) average. 
Joining the duo were senior Daniel Griffin, second team pitcher, and Auston Peel, second team catcher.  Junior outfielder Duane Heindel was honorable mention in the outfield.  Griffin finished the season at 6-2 with a 3.08 ERA, tops among regular pitchers.  He led the team in strikeouts with 46.  Peel was third on the team in hitting at .414 (36-87) while Heindel was fifth at .357 (30-84).
Top honors for the region went to Toombs County’s Brian Fitzgerald for Coach of the Year, Javec King of Toombs County for Player of the Year and Clint Taylor of Dodge County for Pitcher of the Year.
Region champion Toombs County dominated the All-Region squad.  In addition to the player of the year, five more Bulldogs were named to the team.  Dodge polled three along with the pitcher of the year while SCHS, Swainsboro and Vidalia had two each.  SEB and East Laurens tabbed one each.
