UPDATED: SCHS game with Washington County moved to Friday night

And the wheels keep on turning as it pertains to Screven County's first state football playoff game of 2017.

The Screven County Gamecocks, the Region 4AA champions and a No. 1 seed now will face Washington County, the No. 4 seed from Region 3AA, on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. instead of the previously announced Saturday date in the first round of the GHSA state football playoffs at Kelly Memorial Stadium in Sylvania.

The day of the SCHS game was changed from Saturday, Nov. 11, to Friday, Nov. 10, on Tuesday morning.

Washington County became the fourth seed from its region Monday evening as per the results of a mini playoff held at the neutral field of West Laurens that also involved Bleckley County and Southwest for playoff seeding purposes.

Originally, it was announced that Southwest would be Screven County's opponent, but boths schools vowed they should be the No. 3 seed. Southwest won on Monday night, but Washington County won between the two during the regular season. The SCHS coaches who attended the mini playoffs were already back on the road to Screven County when the opponent was changed.

The GHSA has ruled that Southwest is the No. 3 seed and Washington County is the No. 4 seed. The Gamecocks will play Washington County.

Each of the three teams were 3-3 in Region 3AA play this season.

Tickets for the SCHS-Washington County game will be $8 each and Gamecock booster club passes will not be honored.

The winner of the SCHS-Washington County game will face the winner of the Toombs County-Fitzgerald contest the next week. A win on Nov. 10 by SCHS means the Gamecocks will host that game.

Washington County finished the regular season at 4-6 to go along with its 3-3 mark in the region.

Southwest, by being the No. 3 seed from Region 3AA, will travel to Louisville to play Jefferson County who lost 44-20 to home-standing Screven County in the final regular-season game for the 4AA region title on Nov. 3.

Bleckley County will not be in the state playoffs.

With the Gamecocks’ opponent having to play an in-region playoff on Monday to make the state playoffs after completing its regular season on Nov. 3, that pushed the first-round state playoff game into Saturday.

The top two seeds from Region 3AA are Dodge County and Dublin. Dodge County will face Region 4AA No. 4 seed Butler and Dublin will play 4AA No. 3 Harlem. Both of those games will be played on Friday, Nov. 10, and Dodge County and Dublin will be the home teams.
