Lady Gamecocks drop opening pair of games

Scoring a combined two runs in their first two games, the SCHS Lady Gamecocks fell to homestanding Southeast Bulloch 5-1 on Monday and homestanding South Effingham 9-1 on Tuesday.
After a game in Vidalia Wednesday after the Sylvania Telephone press deadline, the Red and White will go to Springfield on Aug. 18 before participating in Burke County’s Diamond Day on Aug. 22.
The team will not be at home until Burke County comes here on Aug. 25.
Futility with runners on base was the crucial point in the season opener against AAA SEB.
On a day that saw the Red and White limited to just five hits, four of those came from the top three in the order with just a single safety and a pair of walks being produced by positions four through nine in the order.
Rebekah Woods’ RBI double in the fifth was the lone hit in 10 at bats for SCHS with runners at second or third.
Kara Canetto pitched very creditably, allowing just five hits, and also picked up a pair of hits.
Tuesday things got no better in the loss to the Lady Mustangs.
The epitome of the day was SCHS leaving the bases loaded in the final frame.
