Lady Gamecock softball opens Aug. 10
With a couple of key positions to fill, the 2015 Lady Gamecock softball team will open with three consecutive road games in three days beginning on Monday with a trip to Brooklet to face the Lady Jackets of Southeast Bulloch.
On Tuesday, the team will face host South Effingham before a trip to Vidalia on Wednesday.
The Red and White will not play at home until Aug. 25.
Never shying away from anyone, Coach Billy Pollock’s first three opponents will pose quite a test for the Lady Gamecocks, who finished at 20-11 a season ago advancing to the second round of the Class AA state playoffs.
SEB, whom SCHS swept 7-5 and 2-1 last season, finished at 19-11 in the rigors of AAA play. South Effingham, who soundly swept the Red and White a season ago, finished 27-7 in AAAAA play.
Finally, 2AA Vidalia did not face the locals last season on their way to a 23-12 record that saw them advance to the state finals in Columbus.
Using the lineup that Pollock used against Bacon County a year ago in the second round of the playoffs, SCHS returns seven starters with the missing positions being the mound and the “hot corner” third base.
Fourth year starters in shortstop Rebekah Woods (.394 a year ago) and catcher Victoria Winters (.455 a year ago) should led the way.
