Burns signs softball letter with Chaflin University

After a successful two-year stint at Florence-Darlington Technical Junior College, former Lady Gamecock Courtney Burns has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball the next two seasons for the Chaflin University Lady Panthers of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The regular season SIAC champions with a conference record of 21-3, Chaflin finished the season with their best-ever record of 42-8.
Burns, who also spend time at catcher while playing for the Florence-Darlington Stingers, was a First Team All-Region X infielder in 2013 when the team recorded a 33-9 worksheet. Most of her time was spent at shortstop.
“It’s always good when you can add experience to your infield,” said Chaflin Head Coach Matisse Lee, who recently was named the SIAC softball Coach of the Year. “The addition of Courtney will only enhance the already solid play that we had this past season.”
In competing in the SIAC, Chaflin also sees Georgia schools Fort Valley State, Albany State, Clark-Atlanta, and Paine on their sports schedule.
Burns, who received her Associates of Arts degree in May, is looking to pursue mathematics or accounting while at Chaflin. She is now the sixth member of the 2010 Lady Gamecock softball team to play at a four-year school, joining cousin Tiffany Burns and Rochelle Shuman at North Georgia; Marla Thompson at Georgia Southern; Sydney Weaver at Young Harris; and Dawn Stewart at Coastal Georgia.
