SCHS baseball has five named first-team all-region

To top off an 18-8 season that includes wins over two AA teams playing in the Elite Eight, this week, the SCHS baseball Gamecocks saw five of their members named First Team All Region 3AA at a meeting of coaches May 9.
Included in those named first team were three infielders, a pitcher, and an outfielder. Named from the infield were juniors Shadon Kemp and Brandon Whatley along with senior Bailey Pollock. From the outfield came senior Aaron Brower, while senior pitcher Carl Heindel also was named.  
Second Team honors went to junior pitcher Wyatt Beasley and senior outfielder Tyler Dixon was named Honorable Mention. The region Coach of the Year was Westside’s Gerald Barnes and the Co-Players of the Year were Westside’s Mason Dodd and Dublin’s Brandon Coney.
On the mound for the season, Heindel finished with a 5-2 record and a 3.13 ERA. In 11 games, he pitched 56 innings allowing only 33 hits while striking out 75. He also walked/hit 60.
Beasley finished at 3-2 in 10 games with a 3.82 final ERA. He threw 33 innings, allowing 36 hits and struck out 23 while walking/hitting 20.
For the infielders, the junior Whatley ended up leading the team in batting with a .471 average (33-82). He was second on the team in RBI with 25 and scored 24 runs.
Brower was second on the team hitting at a .443 clip (39-88) with a team leading 25 runs scored and 13 extra base hits.  
Pollock, who missed the first half of the season with an injury, concluded his four letter-winning years with a .342 average (13-38).
The other first teamer, Kemp, hit .313 (26-94) and led the team with 25 RBI while being second on the team with 12extra base hits, including four homers. He also scored 24 runs.
In being named Honorable Mention, Dixon hit .339 (20-59) and led the team with 15 stolen bases.
