Tracking seven qualifiers for state finals

Led by Vaneisha Lawton’s second in the 300 hurdles, the SCHS track program qualified seven for the state finals by finishing fourth or better in their events at the Class AA “sectionals” at Greater Atlanta Christian Saturday.
The state meet for the girls will be May 1-3 in Albany, while the boys will be May 8-10 at Jefferson High School.
Lawton, the lone Lady Gamecock to qualify for the state finals, ran a 47.27 in the long hurdles.
For the Gamecocks, a total of six qualified led by Josh Kerson’s third in the 110 hurdles (15.07). With fourth place finishes were Bryce Johnson in the discus (138-06); Tyler Williams in the triple jump (42-07); and the short relay team of Taravious Johnson, Desmond White, Quan Smith, Kerson, and Williams.
Also completing their events on Saturday for the Lady Gamecocks were Lawton in the 100 hurdles (9th); Laura Stuart in the 1600 (12th); KB Scruggs in the 3200 (11th); Ralaya Evans in the long jump (11th) and triple jump (11th); the short relay team of Lawton, Briana Williams, Jaila Williams, Evans, and Scruggs (8th); and the long relay team of Diamond Bryant, Scruggs, Danialle Hunter, Stuart, and Williams (11th).
For the Gamecocks completing their events were White in the 100 (10th); Smith in the 100 (6th) and the 200 (7th); Williams in the long jump (13th); and Rashad Hughley in the triple jump (6th).
