Region 3AA announces all region soccer team

Four members of the SCHS Lady Gamecock soccer team made the Region 3AA All Region team in some capacity as the team was named by coaches last week.
Sophomore goalie Whitney Gay led the way for the Red and White as the only First Teamer, but juniors Kayla Chance, Dana Kemp and Alyssa Lee were named Honorable Mention. There was no Second Team.
Gay finished the season with 110 saves, but more impressively seven shutouts, good enough to rank second all time for SCHS in a single season. Her 204 career saves and 13 career shutouts in just two years rank her third in career stats as well.
Kemp led the Lady Gamecocks in scoring with 15 goals, the third most in a single season, while Chance, a midfielder, had three goals and three assists with defender Lee having three goals as well.
Other notable numbers for the team, which finished fifth on the season, were freshman Tara Thompson’s 13 goals, the most ever by a freshman; Lindsey Thomas’ 10 goals and six assists (second most in a season ever); Anna Smith’s seven goals; and Haleigh Thompson’s five goals. Kemp now has 24 goals in her career, good enough for fourth in that category, while Thomas has 10 career assists, good enough for second.
