Tennis concludes sub-region play

Traveling to Augusta to face the Lucy Laney Wildcat tennis teams, the SCHS Lady Gamecock and Gamecock teams concluded their Region 3AA-B schedule Tuesday with victories.
The teams will next be in action Monday, March 24, when Southeast Bulloch will come to the local courts and the following day when Calvary Day comes.
During the weekend of March 28-29, both teams will be in Savannah participating in the Coastal Empire Tennis Classic.
With a 4-1 triumph, the Lady Gamecocks picked up their expected win and their expected clean slate in sub-region play. Winners were Rebekah Woods, Jancy Durrence, and the team of Pamela Wooten and Michaela Iwinski, all at the score of 6-0, 6-0. Laney had no second doubles team, however took the win with the best singles player in 3AA at No. 1 over Haley Jackson 6-2, 6-0.
On the season, the SCHS girls team is 8-1 overall.
After losing their first sub-region contest three weeks ago, the Gamecocks’ 5-0 win over Laney Tuesday locked up second place and assured them of another trip to state.
The boys’ win, combined with Westside’s 4-1 win over Harlem (also on Tuesday) wrapped up that second seed for the region tourney in Statesboro April 15.
Laney fielded but three singles players to go with no doubles. Jacob Lariscy, Ryan Bazemore, and Mason Oglesby each claimed wins with only Oglesby losing a single game.
