Boyds honored at Farm Bureau banquet
State Representative and House Majority Leader Jon Burns presented Ben and Julie Anna Boyd a resolution that had been read on the House floor earlier this year in honor of the couple being named for the 2017 National Outstanding Young Farmer Award.
Ben Boyd accepted the award from Burns on Oct. 24 as his spouse was en route to Indianapolis with members of the Screven County High School chapter of the FFA.
The resolution reads “every year, the National Outstanding Young Farmers select a group of finalists based on their progress in an agricultural career, extent of soil and water conservation practices, and contributions to the well-being of the community, state, and nation; and
WHEREAS, Ben and Julie Anna Boyd are among the winners of the 61st annual National Outstanding Young Farmers Award; and
WHEREAS, Ben began his career raising cotton, peanuts, corn, soybeans, wheat, rye, oats, hay, and beef cattle after earning degrees in agriculture and business management, and his 16 years in farming have been shaped by his ability to respond to disaster; and
WHEREAS, Julie Anna is a third generation farmer as well as an agricultural education teacher; and
WHEREAS, as result of their exceptional ingenuity, adaptability, and work ethic, they have persevered and improved their farm’s soil health and water quality throughout their careers; and
WHEREAS, invaluable leaders in agriculture, agricultural business, and agricultural education, they have established a glowing reputation for their unparalleled contributions and 18 guidance; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of these remarkable and distinguished individuals be properly recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Ben and Julie Anna Boyd upon being honored with the 2017 National Outstanding Young Farmers Award and express gratitude for their important contributions and accomplishments.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Ben and Julie Anna Boyd.”
