Lady Gamecocks dominate first home cross country meet
Finally with their first home meet on their all-new course at the Black Creek Scout Reservation, the SCHS Lady Gamecock cross country team of Cindy LeMaster dominated the field on Oct. 11.
On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the Red and White hosted their final regular season match in preparation for the Oct. 25 Region 4AA meet, also to be held on the Black Creek course.
The Wednesday meet was project to be like a “pre-region” meet as Jefferson County, Butler, AR Johnson, Glenn Hills, Westside, Burke County and Jenkins County were scheduled to attend.
With Burke County, Jenkins County and region foe Harlem participating, the Lady Gamecocks landed five of the top eight positions from 21 total runners.
Three-time defending region champion Katelyn Alvarez was again the No. 1 girl finishing at 20:54 which is a new personal record for the SCHS senior.
Taking second, but nearly three minutes behind one of the most dominant athletes in SCHS history, was freshman Mary Anne McCord who came in at 23:41.
Also gaining points for the Lady Gamecocks were Destiny Simpson (4th, 26:20); Abigail Stockwell (7th, 27:59); and Kassidee Hutchison (8th, 28:14).
