Lots of activity expected at election time

Multiple townships in Screven County will hold elections for various seats in November.
The City of Sylvania, Georgia will conduct a General election to elect a mayor and three city council members.  
The election will be conducted in the city on Tuesday, Nov. 3.  
Advance voting begins Oct. 12 at the Screven County Registrar’s Office.
In Oliver, three council seats are open to those who wish the qualify.
Hiltonia also will have three open council seats.
Newington will have three open spots on council.
Rocky Ford will have two open seats.
To qualify for the open seats, individuals should contact their respective municipalities to do so.
Advance voting begins Oct. 12 at the Screven County Registrar’s Office.
All persons desiring to qualify as candidates in the election should do so by filing notice of their candidacy at city hall and paying their qualifying fees at that time.  
In Sylvania, the qualifying fee for candidates desiring to run for mayor will be $144 and council will be $72.  
Qualifying for said seats shall commence no earlier than 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, and shall close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.
The last day for persons to register to vote in the election shall be Monday, Oct. 5, by 5 p.m.
The election shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia Election Code, as amended.
