Wild About Screven this month

The Wild About Screven Festival will be Sept. 20 as the Screven County Chamber of Commerce and the GFWC Sylvania Junior Woman’s Club have been working on several events.
First of these events is the Wild About Screven Catfish & Bass Fishing Tournament.
Starting Friday, Sept. 19, anglers are invited to fish the waters of Screven County for the biggest fish they can land. There will be a weigh-in at the Amphitheater behind the Screven County Courthouse at 11 a.m. on Sept. 20.
For more information about this event, please contact Barry Durden.
The next event will be FoSCA’s Wild About Animals Fall 5K Fun Run/Walk. Registration is $25 and includes a T-shirt while supplies last. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Sept. 20 in the parking lot of the Queensborough National Bank & Trust located at 301 Mims Road in Sylvania.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. All funds raised will support FoSCA’s mission to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs through education, rehabilitation and re-homing. For more information about the FoSCA 5K, please contact FoSCA through Facebook or call 912-564-0005.
The Wild About Screven Arts & Crafts Festival will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m., and will be held on the Screven County Courthouse lawn.
In addition to many arts and crafts vendors, informational booths and food vendors, there will be live entertainment, children’s activities, and a Kid Safety Zone, which will include a mini health fair, the Fire Safety House, and more.  There will also be games and rides for children to enjoy.
Inside the courthouse, there will be a Child Identification Kit area, where parents can have their children fingerprinted and video taken in case of emergency, a display of Student Art, and the Amateur Photography Contest entries.
At 11 a.m. at the live entertainment area next to the courthouse, there will be a Doggy Dressup Dog Show. Dog owners of all ages will show off their pups. Money from the dog show will be donated to FoSCA.
We will have a booth with live animals and flight demonstrations from the GSU Wildlife Education Center, better known as the Raptor Center. There will be shooting and fishing simulators from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources available.
Also at this time, the Wild About Screven Car, Truck, RV and Motorsports Show will be held in front of the Sylvania Fire Department.
In the same area, organizers will have a Heritage Zone, wildlife booths, local business’ booths, and a Black Powder Show.
At 2 p.m. on the Sylvania Fire Department lawn, the annual Golf Ball Drop will be held.  Tickets for the Golf Ball Drop are $5 each or 3 for $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact FoSCA through Facebook or call us at 912-564-0005.
Funds raised by the Golf Ball Drop will be split between FoSCA, the Sylvania Fire Department, and the winner of the Golf Ball Drop.
The Screven Motorsports Racing Complex will be opening all four tracks at 3 p.m. on Sept. 20.
