SCHS students and their parents urged to attend July 29 meeting

First Byline:
Staff reports

The State of Georgia Department of Education is very concerned about this year’s junior class being successful on the Georgia High School Graduation Math Test, says Brett Warren, Screven County High School principal.
Warren said passing the Graduation Test is one of the requirements to earning a diploma in Georgia. This year’s Math Graduation Test will be the first test that will be based on the new Math curriculum – Math 1, Math 2, and some elements of Math 3.
“This summer the State of Georgia has given some new guidelines and options on how to best prepare our students for the graduation test,” Warren said. “The Screven County High School administration, math department, and guidance office has discussed the options that our juniors have for math this year in preparing for the Graduation Test.”
SCHS will hold a meeting Thursday, July 29, at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium to discuss the new recommendations for math course this school year for our juniors.
“We do hope that you and your student can attend this meeting to discuss the changes,” Warren said. “New recommendations will be given out and meetings set up if further discussion on the matter is needed.
“If you cannot make this meeting, please call the high school guidance department to discuss your student’s math course for next year,” Warren said.
