The Screven County Chamber of Commerce has sold 260 tickets for its 36th annual banquet and has only 40 remaining to sell.
Southern sage and newspaper columnist Ronda Rich will be the speaker at the banquet, which begins with a silent auction at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church in Sylvania.
The chamber has about 20 packages for the auction at a variety of price points, including several overnight stays, a cooking package, a Coke package and a gardening package, said Heidi Jeffers, the chamber’s executive director.
The chamber also will show a community video it has been producing in recent weeks and will announce new board members and give out awards. “I think it’ll be a lot of fun,” Jeffers said.
Rich is the best-selling author of What Southern Women Know (That Every Woman Should), a book that is in its 27th printing. She writes a weekly, syndicated newspaper column and speaks at more than 100 events each year as a humorous and inspirational speaker.
In 2002, HarperCollins released a memoir of her years in NASCAR racing as a journalist and publicist -- My Life in the Pits. Her books include What Southern Women Know about Flirtin’; a novel, The Town That Came A-Courtin’; and What Southern Women Know About Faith.
She has appeared on dozens of television shows including The View, The Other Half and Best Damn Sports Show and appeared in many magazines including Cosmopolitan, Redbook and Woman’s Own.
Rich will sell and sign her books at the banquet.
