Cat who seeks a commission seat declares election victory

First Byline:
G.G. Rigsby

Beau, the cat running for Screven County commission, is declaring at least a partial victory in Tuesday’s primary election.
Beau was interviewed on WTOC’s Mid-Morning Live for five minutes Wednesday morning, the morning after the election. His campaign manager, Dale Reddick, said he has raised $230 worth of one-dollar votes – more than the 103 votes that Commission Chairman Will Boyd got in the “real” election the day before. Boyd, who faces no opposition in the race, gathered the most votes among the four county commission candidates listed on the ballot Tuesday.
“We’re declaring a partial victory, but we’ve got to keep at it,” Reddick said, continuing to raise money until the Nov. 2 election. One dollar donated to Friends of Screven County Animals buys one vote for Beau, who lives at the FoSCA shelter on W. Ogeechee Street. The money goes to help animals at the shelter.
Reddick and Friends’ shelter chairman Christy Campo appeared with Beau on the TV program to explain the fund-raising gimmick and the group’s efforts to help animals in Screven County.
They told the audience that Beau will be signing autographs at a “meet the candidates” forum at the shelter in August. “I want to meet his campaign manager,” said WTOC’s Mike Cihla. “He’s got press time, he’s got TV time. He’s got it all right now.”
Beau’s campaign flyers and donation boxes are posted at area businesses.
