It took two-and-a-half years, but the wait is finally over.
Renovations are done on the former Hardee’s in Sylvania. The restaurant, called “Rok-N-Robin’z,” opened Monday with a 1950s theme and statue of Elvis and began serving fast-food including Angus beef burgers, chicken fingers and salads.
The restaurant owned by Robin and Diane Potter, who also own R&D’s Seafood Steaks & More on Highway 301, will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The restaurant created 40 full- and part-time jobs, said Diane Potter. She said more than 300 people applied for the jobs and she wishes she could have hired more.
The restaurant has menu items named for and by the couple’s children: Cassie Burke, Kimberly Potter Monte, Laura Potter Mitchell, Holly Burke Zeigler, Dwayne Burke and godchild, Zachary Thompson.
Potter said the restaurant will charge “compatible prices for the quality of food.” For example, the Angus beef club burger is $3.99, or $5.99 for a combo with fries and a drink.
The extensive menu includes a barbecue sandwich for $2.99, or $4.99 for a combo with fries and drink. A shrimp po boy sandwich is $2.99, or $4.99 for a combo.
The menu includes such items as chicken livers and gizzards, milkshakes and fried dill pickles. Desserts include banana pudding or peach cobbler for $1.99 each.
The restaurant was busy during its first full day of operation Monday. It will have a grand opening celebration in a few weeks, possibly with a classic car show, Potter said.
