SCHS band claims ‘gold’ at Sound of Silver Invitational
Fri, 11/20/2015 - 10:56am
Saturday was super as the Screven County High School Gamecock Band performed in their first competition of the season at Pierce County High School in the Sound of Silver Invitational.
The SCHS band received straight superior ratings in every caption including drum major, percussion color guard, and overall band.
The band members finished third overall in their classification.
“I’m extremely proud of our performance this past weekend,” said Justin Burke, SCHS director of bands. “The kids have stepped up and put the work in that this difficult show has demanded. We have an even bigger challenge coming up this weekend and I can’t wait to see all of their efforts payoff again.”
The band will travel to Warner Robins High School on Oct. 24 to compete in the Heart of Georgia Invitational.
The SCHS students will get their first experience marching on artificial grass as Truett-McConnell has recently installed astroturf on its field.
Twenty-two bands from all over the state are expected to compete in this Saturday’s contest.
