Officials provide 12th District insight
With local elections coming within a matter of weeks and district elections on the calendar for 2016, the Screven County Republican Party hosted its 18th annual 12th Congressional District Fish Fry on Oct. 15 at the Pathway Center. State and local Republican leaders met with residents from the 12th District and provided updates on the status of the lawmaking at the state and national levels. This year the individuals who spoke from the podium were ones who currently hold elected positions at higher levels. Those speaking from the podium at the Pathway Center located on U.S. Highway 301 were Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols; representative for U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson Nancy Bobbitt; U.S. Rep. Rick Allen; Georgia General Assembly chaplain Dr. Ron Bigalke; State Sen. Jesse Stone; and State Rep. and House Majority Leader Jon Burns. A special recognition was made by Burns for Herb Jones who served in the state legislator as a conservative Republican when years ago when there were not any others. Jones now works with Effingham County officials to help further the economic development of the county.
