City to make purchases

The Sylvania City Council voted in favor of the purchase Tuesday evening of some needed equipment that had been previously discussed.
The main three items on the agenda for the meeting were the leasing of a 2014 Dodge Charger for the Screven County Sheriff’s Office for the price of $31,424.92 at 3.49 percent. 
The other lease was for two utility trucks for the cost of $140,000 at 3.75 percent. 
A third purchase was made for a new garbage truck with funds from SPLOST, at the cost of $134,645. All three items were passed by the council.
Another item on the agenda for the night was the sale of power to Crisp County and Covington. Sylvania currently has an excess, and is selling 9.526 megawatts to Crisp and Covington. The city will sell its excess for $33.75 per megawatt hour. The contract is a three-year agreement, beginning Jan. 1, 2016, and ending on Dec. 31, 2018. 
The city is also approving a nutrition grant for $46,898.55 for meals for the senior center. The grant is for $43,182.80, and the city’s local match is $3,715.75. The motion was made and passed.
The final item on the agenda was to approve Halloween for Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m. The council quickly approved the item.
The next Sylvania City Council meeting is scheduled for Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
