County adds a fire station

In its meeting Tuesday, the Screven County Board of Commissioners elected to build a new fire station, reappointed some individuals back to their various boards and altered the date of the September meeting.
The board voted to build a new fire station on land that McDonald Baptist Church gave the county. The county received the reserve fire truck it needed for the station to operate. The building would cost around $15,000 to build.
The county also announced the following reappointments: Kathryn Youles was reappointed to the Keep Screven Beautiful Commission, and the Public Facilities Authority Board were all reappointed to their current positions. Both the Planning and Zoning Board and the Department of Family and Children Services are currently searching for candidates to replace members who are leaving their positions.
Lastly, the board elected to hold a called meeting next Tuesday at 9 a.m. to set the tax levy. The board also voted to move its next meeting to Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. The September meeting will set the budget.
