Arrest made for child molestation
A Sylvania man has been arrested on charges of molestation of a child under the age of 10.
Following an investigation by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office, Jimmy Lee Price, 53, of Beaver Dam Road, Sylvania, was arrested and charged on June 24 with rape, aggravated child molestation, and aggravated sodomy.
Price currently is being held at the Screven County Jail without bond, awaiting court proceedings.
The victim in the case, which included acts of forced sexual intercourse and sodomy, was a female child under the age of 10.
Deputies were able to proceed through the investigation and make an arrest quickly because of the serious circumstances of the case, as well as the timely assistance of the Statesboro Police Department, the Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center, and in particular, investigators Erick Riner and Clay Gracen of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, whose assistance, authorities say, was invaluable.
“Incidents like this don’t happen often here in Screven County, but when they do, we draw on resources from all over to get the job done,” Sheriff Mike Kile said. “I am very pleased with the way our office coordinated with surrounding agencies to build a solid case.
“I strongly encourage parents to have frank conversations with their children about safety issues -- sad as it is to say, children need to know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate personal contact, and they should know who to go to so they can share their experiences if something bad happens to them,” Kile said.
