Open houses then open doors for school year

The return of school bells are almost upon us.
The official Screven County system-wide Open House for the elementary, middle and high schools will be Friday, Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in preparation for the first day of school Aug. 4.
Before the day of the open house, there also will be orientation sessions at the three schools for specific grades.
A PreK drop-in orientation will be at the elementary school today, July 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. A sixth grade orientation will be at the middle school from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today and a ninth grade orientation also will be at the high school from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 31.
To assist PreK students entering school, Optim Medical Center -- Screven representatives will be at the elementary school during the July 31 orientation to help parents complete the Georgia Department of Human Resources Form 3300.
School officials say the cost of finalizing the form at a physician’s office can be expensive. Optim has agreed to conduct the testing at the elementary school Thursday for free.
School officials already have contacted the families of 80 students who need the form completed.
A student, regardless of grade level, who has never been in a Georgia public school must provide certification of eye, ear and dental examinations on the 3300 form. Any child admitted to school without a certificate must present one within 120 calendar days.
