Monday yarn plant groundbreaking for big economic boost

July the Fourth affords the local community an opportunity to reflect and celebrate American heritage while spending time with family and friends.
After a three-day weekend, Screven Countians will have more reason to celebrate as ground will be broken in the county for a new plant that is projected to eventually employ 250.
“We are looking forward to July 7 and officially welcoming our new partner SV Pittie Textiles to the community,” said Bobby Smith, chairman of the Screven County Development Authority, of the ShriVallabh Pittie Group plant groundbreaking Monday at 10 a.m. at Screven County Industrial Park.
The public is invited as Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and Vinod Pittie, the chairman of the ShriVallabh Pittie Group, will be in attendance.
“We hope to have a large turnout to welcome Gov. Deal and Mr. Pittie. Construction is expected to begin in August, but July 7 is the last day Mr. Pittie will be in the U.S. until later in the fall,” Smith said.
Zulfiqar Ramzan, senior vice president of international business development for the ShriVallabh Pittie Group, said additional legislators and lawmakers have been invited.
The ShriVallabh Pittie Group, a leading textile manufacturer in India, will build its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility in the Screven County Industrial Park. A sign showing the location of the plant site can be seen by motorists on Highway 21 Millen Highway.
The plant is expected to employ up to 250 as $70 million is invested into the project that will be on 70 acres of property in the industrial park. Upon completion of construction on the project, the plant is projected to open for production in January 2016 as it will manufacture a range of various counts of carded cotton yarn.
“This continues to be a team effort,” said Dorie Bacon, executive director of the development authority. “We thank our partners with the city, county, and state who continue to assist us. We look forward to 250 more jobs in our community at the end of construction.”
