Arrests made in drug bust

After a month long investigation initiated by complaints of citizens, a Friendship Road home was raided by multiple law enforcement agencies executing a night time search warrant for suspected illegal drugs.
Screven County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Michael Lacienski, with the help of the Sylvania Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and the Department of Natural Resources, arrested Shantell Laquan Francois, 31, of 2294 Effingham Highway, Keyanna Maria Tanksley, 31, of 1180 Friendship Road, and Robert Lee Burton, 41, of 1180 Friendship Road.
The three all face drug possession charges after a half-ounce of crack cocaine and five ounces of marijuana were found at the 1180 Friendship Road residence. The drugs were an estimated street value of $1,000. Firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash were also found at the home.
Complaints about the home included the individuals selling alcohol by the shot and prostitution in addition to the drug dealing.
“We have to rely on information from the public to assist us in these types of investigations because if we don’t receive complaints then we don’t know where we need to direct our investigative efforts,” Dickerson said.
The successful operation led to a “decent-sized” alleged drug dealer off the street.
“As long as there is a demand for drugs there will always be someone willing to provide the supply,” Dickerson said. “The only thing that we can do is make the provision of services as unattractive as possible.”
Francois is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug-related objects; Tanksley was charged with possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of cocaine with intent and possession of marijuana with intent; Burton was charged with possession of cocaine with intent, two possession of a firearm by a convicted felon counts, possession of marijuana with intent, and possession of marijuana more than one ounce.
Most of the contraband and cash was found in the home’s bathroom. The search warrant was executed with a knock, but when there was no answer the raid was conducted. Dickerson said those inside did not have time to flush the drugs down the toilet.
