Man faces molestation charges

A Statesboro resident was arrested last week for child molestation after an investigation launched by the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office found the alleged crimes took place in Screven County.
Wesley Alfonzo Murphy, 26, of 1214 Garden District #2, was charged with child molestation and arrested May 27 by Screven County investigators. Murphy was being held at the Bulloch County Jail during the investigation, and was moved to Screven after Bulloch County authorities found out the molestation occurred in Dover.
Investigator Bill Crockett of the Screven County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was a female family member and had been molested over an unspecified span of time by Murphy.
Crockett said since Murphy has been in custody, he has attempted to harm himself and was sent to an Augusta facility for a mental health evaluation.
Investigator Brett Dickerson said the turnover time from incident report to arrest was quick as the case was quickly sorted through with testimony developed through investigation.
A child molestation charge can carry a five to 20-year sentence and is a felony.
