Public hearing Tuesday for South Main rezoning

The Sylvania City Council is holding a public hearing on Tuesday night about a request to change the zoning of two houses on S. Main Street from residential to professional.
The public is invited to speak at the hearing, which will begin at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, at 104 S. Main St.

Sylvania lawyers Grady K. Reddick and Donald O. Sheppard III are asking that the house at 307 S. Main St. be rezoned so they can open law offices there. The house next door, at 305 S. Main St., also would have to be rezoned since it’s between the lawyers’ house and a house that’s already zoned professional.

The city council must vote on the request on or before its third regular meeting after the public hearing. Mayor Margaret Evans has said she will ask the council if it wants to vote on the request at the meeting that’s scheduled immediately after the hearing.
