City police continue to be in 'Charge'

Sylvania City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to a lease-purchase of a new police car for $22,400.

The 2009 Dodge Charger will be purchased from Butler Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Beaufort, S.C. The city will spend about $7,000 more on such additions as lights and radios, said City Manager Carter Crawford, with city workers saving $2,000 to $3,000 by doing the installation themselves.

The car will join the city’s two other Dodge Chargers, with the oldest one, which has more than 90,000 miles, moving to a reserve status. The city will retire one of its older-model cars, Crawford said.
